Pipeline Fails with "Operation returned an invalid status code 'BadRequest'" After Successful Run

Hi Everyone,

Our Fabric pipeline was running successfully but has now started failing with the below error:

❌ Fabric pipeline execution failed, error message received from failing pipeline - 'Failed to run the Pipeline: Operation returned an invalid status code 'BadRequest''

  • No changes were made to the pipeline before the failure.
  • Error occurs at the pipeline level, not at a specific activity.
  • Re-runs do not resolve the issue.
  • Connections, capacity, and schemas are all verified and valid.
  • Is this a known platform-side issue?
  • Any diagnostic steps to trace the root cause of this BadRequest?

Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Thanks and Regards,
Shreya

This error is happening at the Invoke Pipeline orchestration layer, not inside the child activities. That’s why it surfaces as a BadRequest at the pipeline level. The most common cause is a misconfigured or invalid connection in the invoke step, even if the pipeline logic hasn’t changed.

First, confirm you’re using the new Invoke Pipeline activity rather than the Legacy version, since legacy orchestration can produce vague BadRequest failures. Next, check that the Fabric connection bound to the invoke step is still valid because connections can expire, lose permissions or break after backend updates. If the connection is missing or corrupted, the request will fail before the child pipeline even starts. You can verify this in Monitor, if the downstream pipeline never appears, the failure is happening at the orchestration/validation layer; if it appears and fails immediately, the issue is inside the child pipeline.

If the connection is valid and the child pipeline still doesn’t start, capture the activity output JSON and run ID for backend details and check Fabric service health for regional incidents. In some cases, re‑binding the connection or recreating the invoke activity resolves metadata corruption.

    Hello Shreya,

thank you for reaching the community forum.

Could you please share a bit more details about hte pipline and invoke action?

Firstly check if your invoke action is not Legacy

Secondly, check if there is connection set to invoke action and it works as expected

As well, do you see process_via_spark pipeline triggered in the Monitor?

    BR, Taras

    Hi Shreya_Barhate ,

You can try to clone the pipeline and strip it down to a single activity, If that runs, the issue may be in orchestration metadata. Also you can check activity log and expand the json to find out any missing parameter.

    Hope that helps!
