PowerBI Datamart for Data staging

Hi!

 

I am looking to use PowerBI datamart as a staging area for my data and need some suggestions. 

We are getting assets and its attributes from SQL on a daily basis with full loads and reporting out of it currently in PowerBI. The requirement is to also create a monthly report going back 3 months and see what all chnaged ona  particular asset or if asset counts have gone down or up or any kind of chnage. Currently due to the size of the dataset its overwrite full load updates. We were wondering if Datamart in PowerBI would be an option to create data and store it somehow. We tried creating keys with date and Asset keys(combination and tried incremental loads, unfortunately the next days data overwites it and we have just the fresh one days data only. Is there a possibility of doing something like that or is there any other option , other than creating the staging database in SQL itself and rather use datamart as an option to do so?

    Hi,

    Datamart contains fully managed SQL instance to store the data. if you have different data sources and you need to combine them and store them in one place then use those tables for Power BI dataset and reports then you can use datamart. I dont think you can use datamart for your use case specially on Power BI dataset size issue.
