Power BI Error

Hello Everyone,

Some of my users are getting below error when they first load the Power BI service of any workspace or report.

For sure, It's not the report causing the problem, because few users were able to open the report without that popup message.

Thanks

    Hi praveenk ,

Is there any RLS applied to the report? Please check whether the users who have viewer role in the worksapce only have been added the corresponding role in Service. By the way, are there any other special settings for the report?

    Something Went Wrong

For anyone that has this issue, the solution was that role based security/filtering was applied to the report, we added the user to the security role for ALL in powerBI.com and that problem went away (Essentially the user had all the data filtered out, and that is the error when zero data is available for the report

    Hi Anonymous,

There is no RLS setup on the dataset that feeds data to the report. I removed the Viewer role from the workspace, and when I ask the user to test. He's till getting the same error on the Power BI landing page as soon as log into Power BI Service.

      Hi praveenk ,

Please review the following link and check if it can help you solve the problem.

Power BI error Something went wrong, unable to read the application metadata

There is no definite fix for this and it could be mostly intermittent, retrying may help. But you can still check these points.
      1. Check from a different browser.
      2. Logout and login again.
      3. Check and confirm you can access other Microsoft 365 services like Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
      4. Check your account has necessary Office 365 license for PowerBI.
      5. White list the Power BI link/domain.
      6. Disable the flag for out of blink CORS.
      7. If zScaler proxy/firewall is used, disable SSL inspection for powerbi.com domain.
      8. Check the behavior for your colleague and try from their machine.
      9. Take help from your Tenant admin for help.
      10. If nothing helps, open a support ticket with Microsoft.
