Helper IIHelp finding the correct location to save the .pq file
Helper IIYes. I followed this instruction:
Put the connector .pq, .pqx, .m, or .mez file in your local [Documents]\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors folder. If the folder doesn't exist, create it.
The Power BI Desktop folder wasnt' there either. I created the directory listed above and put the custom connector in the directory. it still wasn't recognized.
I have changed the setting to allow custom connections without verifying.
It would be very helfpul to get this working. Thanks!

Maybe start small, with a known good configuration. Put the attached .mez into the Custom Connectors folder (remove the .zip part, it is only used to trick the forum software as it doesn't allow .mez files). Start a new Power BI Desktop instance. Click on Get Data...More and then search for Power BI API (beta)
If you can see that and use it then the mechanics work an the issue is with your .pq file.

Thank you for this troubleshooting step. I also can't find the Power BI API (beta) from within the desktop app. So I think the location is not right.
I have also tried: C:\Users\Default\Documents\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors
I tried the place where I save my reports - a network drive
Lastly, I tried here:C:\Users\[my userid]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors
After each time I moved the .mez or .pq, I restarted the desktop application.
I'm at a loss as to where this file should be placed.- lbendlin
There is no need for guessing. It must go into
C:\Users\[your user id]\Documents\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors
