Git integration without Fabric capacity
Hi, I'm starting to learn how to use Git to version control my power bi reports. We don't use Fabric. We chose Snowflake instead. Based on YouTube content, most videos show that when you ...

Hi mp390988,
I hope you are doing well☺️❤️
So yes you can use Git for version control without Microsoft Fabric by treat your files as local development using the new Power BI Project (.pbip) file format.
This method breaks your reports into text based files that Git can track and bypass the need for Fabric workspace level git integration
Here are the steps to set up your env:
- First of all Enable the .pbip format
- Then set up your local Git Version Control
Some Notes you should take care of it:
- Premuim Per User (PPU) is likely required (For Teams env)
- If you work alone or have a small team starting with the Publish from Desktop method can be a good way to learn the .pbip workflow
- Git integration helps version control the definition of your reports and data models (the code) not the actual data inside them (So Refreshing your dataset data is a separate process)
Other Resources Could help:
- Use Source Control with your Power BI Report in Microsoft Fabric! (Guy in a Cube)
- PROPER VERSION CONTROL in Power BI using Power BI Projects and GitHub
if this post helps, then I would appreciate a thumbs up and mark it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly.

mp390988 I believe that you can use a PPU license and do the Git integration. With just a Pro license, that would be more that you could save as a PBIP file and check those files into a Git repository.
