Date Hierarchy is changing from month year to year only

I have a visual that I show the date hierarch Year and month.  But when I close and open the report or publish the report to our PowerBI server, only date heirarchy by year is displayed.  How do I prevent the visual from changing and keep the year month hierarchy.

This is how I want it to look.

This is how it looks when it is reopened or opened from our PowerBI server

    HI RobBenco,

It seems like the hierarchy level changes, perhaps you can try to use bookmark to save the current level, and you can simply use this to restore the hierarchy level.

Create report bookmarks in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
In addition, you can also tried to create a calculate column with year month and use this to create visuals, and its group should not auto changes.

I dont think the bookmark will work becasue I have dynamic filters and slicers that my end users use to change the date range and drill int specific departments.  I dont want to freeze filters and slicers.  I have also tried using calculated columns with year and month but I have problems with PowerBI recognizing those calculated columns as date format and therby sorting the visual in chronological order.  The issue is frustrating becasue for some dashbaords the month year hierarchy remains without issue but for a few dashboards the month year changes to year only withour cause.

  • It should not happen. Seems like a bug but not for all.

I tried creating the same, saved it, re-opened, and it retained the hierarchy. Attached SS is after re-opening the file.
