Error Msg: Unable to convert a value to the data type requested for the table " column ".

I'm working with a Direct Query from PBI Desktop to a Semantic Model stored in the cloud. The Semantic model has a number of measures defined, including quite simple ones like: Measure = SUM('table'[columName])

However, I'm consistently getting these error messages in Reports with the Direct Query. The measures work fine in the underlying PBIP that I'm using to define the Semantic model. I found some older posts about this error, but nothing recent.

Is anyone seeing something similiar, is there a resolution beyond re-writing the measure 'locally' where the report is being authored? What is stranger is sometimes the measures work and sometimes they don't. If I drop them into a visual in isolation, I don't get errors, try to add them to more complex visuals i.e. tables with mulitple columns all heck breaks loose.

Thanks!

Hi rpiboy_1, give this a try, and if you encounter any issues, let me know.

Right-click the column in the Query Editor and select "Replace Values."

  • Replace Values where? Its a Direct Query from a Semantic Model already in the Service. The semantic model is authored in a seperate PBIP project, and the Measure that results in the error works fine in that project. Not to mention this is a Measure returning the error so there is no place to 'Replace Values'. The underlying columns are all 'fine'. Its the Measure(s) that result in errors.
