    You could try

    NetSales LY =
VAR _Dates =
    CALCULATETABLE (
        DATESYTD ( 'Calendar'[SalesDate] ),
        TREATAS ( { TODAY () }, 'Calendar'[SalesDate] )
    )
VAR Result =
    CALCULATE (
        SUM ( 'Current Sales'[NetSales] ),
        KEEPFILTERS ( SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR ( _Dates ) )
    )
RETURN
    Result
