Workspace deletion

Hello Everyone,

I was been added to a workspace as contributor. The owner of the workspace has left the organisation , there is no option available to delete that workspace. Is there anyway that I could delete the workspace ?

Regards,

Srisakthi

  • Currently, unlike some other Fabric items, there's no takeover mechanism for entire workspaces when the owner leaves.

However, as a Workspace Contributor, while you cannot delete the workspace, you can take ownership of individual Fabric items (such as Lakehouses, Notebooks, Pipelines, etc.) that you have access to. Once you take ownership, you’ll be able to delete those individual items if needed.

Hope this helps. Please reach out for further assistance.

  • Hi Srisakthi

Being a contributor role, you don't have sufficiant permissions to delete the workspace.  I can sugegst alternatives approches as mentioned below.

    • If you have the credentials of person left from organisation, log in with that credentails and make yourself as admin and later delete it.
    • Contact your Power BI admin/Organisational admin they will help you to delete it.
    • Contact power bi support Power BI support - Power BI | Microsoft Learn and raise the ticket.

Let me know if it works.

    Thank you!!!

  • Ask your capacity or tenant admin to delete the workspace for you.

      Hi lbendlin ,

Though I'm the capacity Admin I cannot delete as I'm a contributor to the workspace. I think only Tenant admin can try deleting it, but not sure.

    Hi Srisakthi ,
Thanks for using Microsoft Fabric Community,
To delete a workspace you must be a Workspace Admin. Since the owner of the workspace has left, the possible options are:-
    1. Tenant admin or Power Bi admin can delete the Workspace.
    2. As mentioned by suparnababu8 you can get credentials from the person who left, you can login with those credentials and can delete the workspace.

Capacity admins cannot delete workspaces with only contributor role in workspaces. They must be Workspace Admin to delete the workspaces.

If you're unable to resolve it internally, consider raising a support ticket with Microsoft: Microsoft Fabric Support and Status | Microsoft Fabric

      Hi v-veshwara-msft ,

I understand, just wanted to know if there any mechanism to take over like for other fabric items we have. Once people left the organisation their credentials will be removed so your option two will not workout.
