Usage Metrics report shows outdated data while old report is correct
Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing an issue with Usage Metrics in Microsoft Fabric / Power BI and wanted to check if others have seen similar behavior.
- “Data updated” stuck around 10–13 days in the past
- Missing recent report activity entirely
- he report is actively being used (confirmed by the old metrics)
- The new Usage Metrics report displays:
- correct structure (cards, rankings, visuals)
- but data is clearly not refreshed
- Message like “Usage metrics ready” appears, but the data is still stale
- This behavior persists over multiple days
- Microsoft Fabric capacity (with scaling between SKUs)
- Standard workspace with active report usage
- No known permission issues
Questions
- Is the new Usage Metrics report using a different backend or pipeline compared to the old one?
- Are there known delays or issues with the new Usage Metrics (especially in Fabric environments)?
- Has anyone experienced large delays (7–10+ days) like this?
- Is there any way to force refresh or reinitialize the new metrics dataset?
Temporary workaround
At the moment, the only reliable option is to use the old Usage Metrics report, as it reflects actual usage correctly.
Your workaround (old report) is valid in the meantime, but the delete/recreate approach resolves it permanently. Here's how you to do it step by step :

Hi anto_n ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum. If you suspect data consistency or refresh issues, it might make sense to delete the existing Usage Metrics Report semantic model. Then you can run View Usage Metrics again to generate a new semantic model with its associated usage metrics reports.
Please follow these steps to delete the semantic model: Monitor Usage Metrics in Power BI Workspaces (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Create a fresh usage metrics report by following these steps: Monitor Usage Metrics in Power BI Workspaces (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft LearnI hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.

Hi anto_n
I wanted to check if you had the opportunity to review the information provided. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.
Thank you. - anto_nAdvocate IIThank you for the detailed description. The previous version was outdated and no longer usable. The Usage Metrics Report is now located under the Semantic Models report tab (previously Datasets, which is no longer available). A new Usage Report option is now available and is updated regularly. Overall, this behavior seems quite unusual.
