RDL Subscription Errors When Saving to SharePoint

Hi.

I have a paginated report in an app. The app is permissioned to a couple groups of users. Those users can run the report and export the output via the app.

Those users permissioned to the app can also set up a subscription that sends the report output to them via email.

What the users can't do is specify a SharePoint folder in their subscription for the output of the report, even though the same permissions groups on the app have access to the SharePoint site. Here's the error the users get when trying to save the subscription:

I'm able to specify the SharePoint folder in question and execute a subscription that exports the report output successfully. The only difference between me and the users who only have app-level access to the report is that I'm in a group that has member access to the workspace where the app and report reside. I'm baffled that that difference would prevent users from being able to export to a SharePoint site, but...here we are.

  • Hi MarkPalmberg,

The user needs Contributor or higher permissions on the workspace to do this.

    Requirements

The requirements apply to users in the organization. To create a subscription, you need:

Your Fabric admin (previously Power BI admin) needs to enable subscriptions in your tenant. If you’re an admin, see Enable subscriptions in the Power BI admin portal.

Well, that stinks. I wonder why you need to be a Contributor on a workspace to unlock the ability to send subscription output to SharePoint but you don't have to have workspace access to set up a subscription to email you the same content. 🤪

Thanks for the reply, tayloramy ; I appreciate your time.

Yeah, I don't understand this restriction, I think it is something about the ability to create a connection in the backend and needing permissions to save that connection, but I could just be guessing.

If my answer helped, I'd appreciate a like and for you to mark it as the solution so others can find the answer faster :)
