Issue while reading xls files using Excelworkbook connector in microsoft data fabric

Hi everyone

I am trying to upload a excel(.xls) file using the GetData(Excel workbook) connector from a fabric data flow and hitting the following error.

An exception occurred: DataSource.NotFound: Excel Workbook: The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. The 64-bit version of the Access Database Engine OLEDB provider may be required to read this type of file. To download the client software, visit the following site: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=285987.

We do have the proper oldeb driver installed and validated the install based on the registry too but still facing the issue.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

I could not resolve the issue with converting the xlsx to xls or vice versa. Somehow still hit the same error.

Had to export the file to CSV to make it work. Thanks again for all your respones. Apologies for the delayed response.

  • If possible, convert the xls to xlsx.  Then you can use the native built in drivers.

    Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

It looks like you're trying to get an excel file in your workspace and there's an error stating that the "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 provider is not registered on the local machine". Its likely due to OLEDB provider is not installed or properly registered as OLEDB is used to read .xls files but you mentioned you already validated your OLEDB installation and registry but the problem is still there.
So for this you can reinstall your OLEDB provider or you can cross check if the correct version is registered using CMD or PowerShell because if your environment runs in 64-bit mode then the 32-bit application will not find OLEDB provider.
If the issue still persists then please follow the solution provided by lbendlin.
