Get started with OneLake data access roles - Missing "Add data to your role" option
I'm having trouble setting up role-level security in OneLake using the new preview feature, OneLake data access roles. Based on the documentation Get started with OneLake data access roles (preview) - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn, it looks like there should be an “Add data to your role” option. However, in my version, I only see the choices “Include all folders” or “Selected folders.”
Here are the steps I am doing.
1) I click on the "Manage OneLake data access (preview)" button after opening Lakehouse.
2) I click on "+ New role" This is a little different since in the documentation it says select "New"
3) Here is what i see.
I am admin of the workspace and the creator and owner of the lakehouse I am attempting to configure. I know this is a preview feature. I think it might be that I don’t have something configured to get the latest updates. Is there a tenant setting that needs to be changed for this option to appear? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi KohlerT50 ,
Thank you for engaging with the Microsoft Fabric Community.
Please note that there have been some UI changes, as OneLake Data Access Roles has now been updated to OneLake Security. You can find more details in this blog: One Lake Security
As you mentioned, to access these new features, you’ll need to complete the request form: onelakesecuritypreview
Since I'm part of the Microsoft tenant, I already have access to these features, as shown in the screenshots below.
Hope this helps. Please reach out for further assistance.

Hello KohlerT50
Same ui for me as well.
The preview feature may have had UI changes since the documentation was published. In some builds, the “Add data” action is integrated into the folder selection workflow, and the explicit button may be replaced by toggles like “Include all folders” or “Selected folders.” After selecting folders, your selections are automatically included in the role, and a separate “Add data” button may not appear

Thank you for your response. I should have read more. It seems that OneLake is a limited preview. I had to fill out a form for a limited number of Workspaces. "OneLake security is currently in a limited preview. To request to join the preview and access these features, fill out the form ... "
