Fabric platform trial activation problems

We’re having trouble activating a Fabric trial in the Norway East region. We currently have an active Power BI Pro trial.

We’ve followed all the steps in this guide:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/fundamentals/fabric-trial?wt.mc_id=searchapi_inproduct_fabrichelppane

We also tried to contact Microsoft Support, but apparently, a support plan is required just to ask about the trial — which seems counterintuitive.

So now we turn to this community for help.

As shown in the attached image, we’re unable to activate the trial. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Our problem is that we can seam to activate the trial as seen in the image.

  • Hi minkimy

Thanks for quick turn around. ""Microsoft 365 and Azure tenants were created fairly recently."  Please follwo below points

    • If your tenant was created recently (within the last few days), Microsoft may impose restrictions on Fabric trials for new accounts.
    • Microsoft has stopped supporting Fabric trials for newly created tenants (e.g., Microsoft Entra ID or M365 tenants less than 90 days old). This restriction was introduced to mitigate abuse of trial accounts.

Please check my accpeted solution here Solved: Re: Unable to open microsoft fabric trial account ... - Microsoft Fabric Community

    Thank you once again

  • Hi minkimy ,
Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community,
As mentioned by suparnababu8 , Microsoft has stopped supporting Fabric trial capacities for newly created Entra ID and Microsoft 365 tenants(less than 90 days).

The decision was made because the ease of spinning up new tenants for testing and learning led to usage patterns that Microsoft could no longer sustainably support at scale. As a result, Microsoft no longer provisions Fabric trials for this class of tenant, even if it’s a legitimate setup.

So while your setup (a newly registered company with verified identity and payment details) may be entirely legitimate, Microsoft currently does not offer a process to manually review or make exceptions for individual cases. Trial activation is determined automatically based on tenant age, service activity, and other internal criteria.

If possible, try initiating the Fabric trial on an established tenant - ideally one associated with your work or school organization and showing active use across multiple Microsoft 365 services.

Alternatively, you can consider purchasing an F2 capacity (or higher). This allows you to pause/resume as needed. For reference, F2 costs approximately $0.35/hour, and it's a good option for testing or development without relying on a trial.

Regarding creating a support ticket, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to this link to take you to the Help and Support section of the Fabric Admin Portal
    2. Click on New Support Request
    3. Fill in the Product and the brief description of the probem.
    4. When you reach the support plan selection step:

      Select “Microsoft Fabric Subscription”.

You do not need to purchase any additional support plan.

    5. Complete the remaining details and submit the ticket.

Hope this helps. Please reach out for further assistance.

  • Hello minkimy

Your Fabric admin has to enable the option Users can create Fabric items-Enabled for the entire organization

    in Tenent settings.

Then only you are able to start Fabric trail in your account. Please check this.

    Thank you!!

  • Thanks for your replay suparnababu8, it looks like its already set, and i have global admin rights on the azure tenant.

Also, the option is grayed out. Note that the Microsoft 365 and Azure tenants were created fairly recently.

Are you sure Microsoft stopped supporting trials for all new Entra tenants?

  • One last question on this topic suparnababu8 :

Is there any way to prove to Microsoft that this isn’t abuse, and therefore have the trial activated?

The tenant is linked to my person and payment card — neither of which have been used with Fabric before. It’s also associated with a newly registered company. I find it unlikely that someone would go through the effort and cost of setting up a company just to abuse a trial, though I could be wrong.
