Error when linking to fabric

Hello all,

I'm facing an issue when linking to Microsoft fabric. Even though I have a Power BI premium license assigned I'm getting the error when to microsoft fabric. Here is the screenshot for your reference.

With the same user(Power BI Premium Per User) I'm trying to link to fabric.

Any help on this will be highly appreciated!!

Regards

Kishor

  • Hello Ramkishor,

It's great that all the step you've done, if you want to link dataverse to fabric, I found this documentation, take your time to read all Prerequisites and follow the step of configuration.

    Documentation :

It may be a problem of role granted, like mentionned :

    • "You must have the System Administrator security role in the Power Platform environment to enable Link to Fabric or Synapse Link"
    • You must be an administrator of the Power BI workspace."

Hope it can help you !

    Best regards,

    Antoine

  • A Power BI Premium Per User (PPU) license gives you access to premium features in the Power BI service, but it does not grant access to Microsoft Fabric. To use Fabric, your tenant must have a Microsoft Fabric (trial or paid) capacity enabled at the tenant level.

You can ask your admin to:

    • Enable the Fabric trial in the tenant, or
    • Assign you access to a Fabric capacity.

That should resolve the error you’re seeing.

        Hello Ramkishor,

That's good, you activate the parameter that allow users to create fabric artefact but in addition, you need to be on a Fabric capacity to use Fabric artifacts.
Having a Power BI Premium Per User (PPU) license isn’t enough by itself.

If you want to use fabric items, you have two options:

        • Assign a Fabric capacity to the workspace (starting from F2 SKU and above in the Azure Portal)

        • Or use the Fabric Trial capacity (free for 60 days) to test Fabric features

Once your workspace is backed by Fabric capacity, you’ll be able to create and use Fabric items like Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, etc.

The link provided by AntoineW is correct. You have to make sure you have all the pre-reqs in place. Fabric/Synapse link is extremely picky about this as it is connecting to Dataverse. You need to make sure your Fabric capacity is in the same region or it will not work. Sometimes region info is difficult to find. If you are in the US, it may just say "united states", but it is most likely in the east region under the covers.

Here is an additional links that should help should you feel like you've met all the pre-reqs in Antoine's link.
