Alias Semantic Model Links
Hi. For AAS servers we had the option of aliasing the server names like here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/analysis-services/analysis-services-server-alias
Is there a process via which we could do the same for Semantic Model links? Replacing the AAS server link with the semantic model link in the web app does not work.

In Microsoft Fabric, the architecture differs from AAS. Alias support for Semantic Model endpoints is not natively available currently. However, here’s the recommended approach to manage Semantic Model connections:
- You can retrieve the connection string from the Semantic Model settings in Fabric.
- You will need to replace the existing AAS server link in your app with the Fabric Semantic Model connection string. This change is necessary because aliasing functionality like AAS is not supported in Fabric.
- If aliasing is critical to your scenario, you could consider managing connection strings externally to decouple the connection string from your app logic.
- This approach allows you to change the connection string in one place without modifying the application code, somewhat mimicking the AAS aliasing behaviour.
I recommend submitting your detailed feedback and ideas through Microsoft's official feedback channels, such as the Microsoft Fabric Ideas. Feedback submitted through these channels is frequently reviewed by the Microsoft team and can contribute to meaningful improvements.

Hi v-ssriganesh ,
I'm facing similar issue as anawast. I have AAS alias configured by azure web application. However when I try to replace AAS "asazure://..." URL to connection string from Power BI service, I'm receiving errors when connect using DAX Studio or Tabular Editor. In the Web App a new link is displayed correctly.
