Always ensure the basic refresh requirements are met before troubleshooting further.
- Verify the gateway version is up to date: An outdated gateway can cause refresh failures due to compatibility or security changes.
- Confirm a gateway is selected for the report If no gateway is selected, Power BI cannot connect to on-premises data sources. This often happens if the data source connection settings were modified or the original data source was removed.
- Match data source credentials Ensure the credentials in the gateway match those used in the dataset.
Additionally, as mentioned by BhaveshPatel this error could be an issue with your data type within your Power BI Desktop file or Excel workbook. It can also be due to an out-of-date Power BI Desktop version.
