How to start a project
I have a dream to become a data scientist, and I’m currently learning relevant courses like the Machine Learning Specialization on Coursera and participating in a machine learning bootcamp.
I’ve started understanding some models and how to fine-tune them, but I’m still not sure how to apply what I’ve learned in real projects.
Could anyone please share free resources or beginner-friendly guides to help me start building data science projects?

Hello Piang_Pi,
Thanks for sharing and you’re heading in the right direction!
My recommendation is to try using Kaggle.
It’s one of the best places to practice data science / AI skills as you can explore real datasets, read other people’s notebooks, and even start small competitions to test your ideas.
Here are some projects I recommend to get started:
- Predicting Loan Payback
- Predicting the Beats-per-Minute of Songs
- Binary Classification with a Bank Dataset
- Predicting Optimal Fertilizers
- Predict Podcast Listening Time
- Binary Prediction with a Rainfall Dataset
Also, happy to have a call sometime to learn more about your career vision and share a few practical ways to grow as a data scientist.
Hope this helps!

Hi Piang_Pi , really understand your situation. You can go to Kaggle and see what others do their project (what is the steps and try to manipulate them first). Once you are good with the concept of what steps need to be done, you can try to create your own (this time you can refer Kaggle dataset for first project). However, from the second project, I suggest you to try to create an end-to-end one, like getting the data from source (maybe web-scraping, API call, pulling data from warehouse/database,...) so that you will be more familiar with code which will help you a lot (not waiting for engineer to get the data when working in a company).
