It seems to work only when created from the workspace (new item -> notebook), and then the lakehouse can be added once the notebook is created.

Getting the error when created from inside the lakehouse (open notebook -> new notebook).

This is the same behavior in my case.

I can also create a notebook first and then add the lakehouse. A nice workaround but it seems natural that one should be able to create a notebook inside the lakehouse.

    Hi jajumonville

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem:

    1. Browser Refresh: Sometimes, simply refreshing your browser or clearing the cache can resolve unexpected issues.
    2. Check for Updates: Ensure that your browser and any related software are up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs that cause these kinds of issues. Or you can try another web browser.
    3. Language Settings: There have been instances where changing the language settings of the browser has resolved similar issues.
    4. Intermittent Issues: Occasionally, these problems can be intermittent. Try creating a new notebook after some time.

If all of above steps don't work, can you check whether you can create other Fabric items, e.g. lakehouse, warehouse?

In addition, can you share the error message you got?

    Best Regards,
    Jing

I have tried all of the above. they do not work, am i just stuck waiting for a time to try again.  Very frustrating and disapointing. there is nothing posted about these problems on the known issues site.

Can you now create other Fabric items, such as lakehouse or warehouse? Or is it only notebooks that cannot be created? Do you get any error message when it failed? Can you share the error message? This might be helpful to troubleshoot this failure.

The known issues website only lists some general known issues. I haven't seen other users reporting this issue recently, so I guess it may be due to some specific configuratin or environment.

    Hi,
I am also facing the same issue. Can Create a new Lakehouse, Can upload files into the same, but then opening a new notebook, getting the below error.

Please let me know how to resolve the same.

      Hi Anonymous prabhuadi

Did you try to create a new notebook in the Lakehouse Explorer in Fabric and got this unexpected error? In my testing, if I open a lakehouse, then try to open a new notebook within the Lakehouse Explorer, I get the same error message as yours.

However, I can create a new notebook directly in a workspace through + New item without any error.

From your screenshots, it seems you were trying to create a notebook from the lakehouse explorer. If so, you can try creating a new notebook within a workspace directly. If this works, it could be a temporary workaround at the moment.

Additionally, what's your Fabric service version and data region? I'm experiencing this issue in UK South and my service version is 13.0.24656.35. Find your Fabric home region - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

      Best Regards,
      Jing

Yeah, figured out this with my colleague the same day. Seems to be some kind of initiation issue because when opened using New Item, it opens fine and works normally.
